Mental Illness Awareness WeekThis week is #MentalIllnessAwarenessWeek! According to Mental Health America, 46% of Americans will meet the criteria for a diagnosable mental health condition sometime in their lifetime, and half of those people will develop conditions by the age of 14. Additionally, the lives influenced by mental illness are much greater. Family members, friends, and coworkers are all indirectly affected by those experiencing mental health concerns. Despite the prevalence, mental health symptoms are often ignored.Please check out Mental Health America and their #b4stage4 campaign to learn about the mental health symptoms, screening processes, and find additional resources to deal with stress, bounce back from adversity, and be a healthy, happy you!…

September Sage Oak SocialsWe had a great time seeing so many families at the beginning of the yearDive into Success socials. Students enjoyed the sea life tidepool tank, art activities and presentations by local vendors. We are pleased to have three more socials planned for this year. Diagnostic or AssessmentIs i-Ready an assessment or a diagnostic? The answer is both. We use the words interchangeably because it is our local assessment, which happens to be a diagnostic. Another view is that the assessment provides a diagnosis of a student’s current levels, which helps to inform future instruction. Our diagnostic is adaptive, which means that about 50% of the questions should be harder or potentially brand new information. This allows for more accurately pinpointing student needs down to the sub-skill level, which is aligned with our personalized model. If the test were finite, the results would be less individualized. …
Math MattersThis year we are focusing on supporting families in math instruction by choosing an excellent math curriculum and providing additional resources to help in the teaching of math. One great resource that will be provided each month is a math newsletter….

School PoliciesPrior to the start of each school year, Sage Oak updates the school policies to meet the most current legislative requirements. Part of that requirement includes providing these policies to our families at the beginning of the school year. Please take some time to review the policies listed in our Parent and Student Handbook. They are summarized throughout the handbook, and the full board approved policies are linked in the appendix.Your TF/EA will be reaching out to you to confirm that you had the opportunity to review these policies and will be asking you to sign the Receipt of Policies confirmation.
