Resources for Military Families

At Sage Oak, we are honored to support military families with flexible, high-quality education options. Whether your family is moving into the area soon or is already stationed locally, our programs are designed to meet your needs, offering personalized learning and live support to ensure your child’s success.

Our Program Options

Virtual Learning Academy Personalized Learning Academy High School Program
The Virtual Learning Academy (VLA) offers three-day a week live virtual classes with CA credentialed teachers, and two days of asynchronous learning with opportunities for both online and in-person social engagement.

Enrolling in the VLA program may be a good fit for our military families if the student will be available to attend the Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday live sessions with their teacher and classmates each week.
Our Personalized Learning Academy (PLA) provides customized learning plans tailored by a CA credentialed teacher to meet each student’s interests and goals, combined with optional online and in-person enrichment classes and activities.

Our PLA program may be a good fit for military families if they can meet with their teacher every 20 school days either virtually or in person. Families must meet in person at least twice a semester.

Sage Oak’s High School Program offers flexible options, Advanced Placement (AP) courses, Career Technical Education, community college dual enrollment, social events, with support from a credentialed Educational Advisor (EA).

Our high school program may be a good fit for students from military families who want the choice to personalize their core classes and enrichment opportunities or to take in-house, live, online classes through our Sage Oak Canvas platform.

Military Kids Connect The first Department of Defense website connects children in the widely separated active, reserve, and National Guard military communities. Informative videos, educational tools, and engaging games and activities for three age groups: 6 to 8, 9 to 12, and 13 to 17, provide children of deployed parents tools to cope with the stress, changing responsibilities, and concern for the safety of their parents. The website also features monitored online social network forums for the groups to safely share their experiences with deployments.

College Scholarship Information The Scholarships for Military Children Program was created in recognition of the contributions of military families to the readiness of the fighting force and to celebrate the role of the commissary in the military family community. Special Rights for Military Families

Under California Education Code Section 48204.3, military families have unique enrollment rights to ensure their children receive uninterrupted education. This code allows students whose parents or guardians are on active duty in the military to:

  • Enroll in public schools, including charter schools, even if they are living outside the district due to military relocation.
  • Receive priority in enrollment and remain enrolled in the school, even if their housing situation changes during the school year.
  • Transfer schools more easily when their family is relocated, ensuring a smooth transition without disrupting their education.
  • At Sage Oak, we understand the unique needs of military families and strive to offer a flexible, supportive learning environment tailored to each student’s circumstances.
