The Maritime Museum of San Diego is a world-class collection of historic ships and exhibits that brings maritime history to life. Educational instructors will give our group a guided walking tour where we will learn about over 500 years of Maritime history by visiting three tall ships, a steam ship, and submarine. Participants will explore the challenges past mariners faced, and how they solved them as technology changed over the centuries, from Spanish galleons of the 15th century to iron hauled merchant ships of the 19th century, how steam changed the maritime industry, up to the usage of diesel/electric engines on submarines. The journey through maritime history culminates with a brief overview of the world of blue tech and current maritime advancements.
An additional 45 minute historic harbor boat cruise is available for up to 25 participants. The boat cruise will end at 12 pm. Please select the Walking Tour + Boat Cruise ticket if you would like this add-on.
