(PLA) City of Long Beach: Touch a Truck
November 3 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

(Release Date: August 26th at 12:00 noon)
This event is for PLA students and their families. All students must be accompanied by an adult. Recommended for PLA grades TK-8th.
Visit the City of Long Beach Collections Services for a fun and interactive experience that gives students a behind the scenes look at what it takes to provide trash and organics collection services throughout a large city. At this “Touch a Truck” experience, students can get an up-close look at some of the different collection vehicles and equipment. City staff will demonstrate how the trucks operate, explain the different types of vehicles uses, and give students an opportunity to meet some of the Refuse Operators who work in the community every day.
The field trip will also include a tour of the facility and an educational session on what happens to trash and organic waste after it is collected. We will finish with an interactive with a waste sorting activity where students can learn what belongs in each cart and why properly separating waste is important.
