(4th Grade VLA) The Living Desert: Self-Guided Tour

This event is for 4th Grade VLA students and their families only. All students must be accompanied by an adult.

Embark on a journey through the desert ecosystem at The Living Desert Zoo and Gardens! This self-guided tour lets you explore at your own pace, giving you plenty of time to visit with amazing animals from around the world – from cheetahs and giraffes to camels and playful meerkats. Discover diverse plant life, walk the winding trails, and experience hands-on exhibits that bring the desert to life! Perfect for animal lovers and explorers alike, this field trip offers a unique peek into how creatures adapt and thrive in one of the world’s hottest climates.

Don’t miss the chance to connect with your 4th-grade classmates at the Heroes of Conservation Connection presentation in the morning! When you arrive at The Living Desert, you’ll enter with your class and head straight to the Village Watutu Theater for this 30-minute session. It’s a fun, interactive chat with the Living Desert team, packed with behind-the-scenes stories, wild facts, and an inside look at the conservation heroes making a difference for desert wildlife. It’s a unique opportunity to learn, laugh, and bond with your fellow explorers while diving deeper into the magic of the desert ecosystem.

Don’t forget to bring a snack to enjoy after the presentation with your friends! Your teachers and fellow 4th graders will gather at the picnic tables nearby, giving you more time to bond before everyone heads out to explore the park with their families.

4th grade VLA Student Ticket: Free
Sibling Ticket (ages 3 & up): $20
Adult Ticket: $40

Tickets can be purchased out of pocket or with Instructional Funds (for Sage Oak students). Purchasing with Instructional Funds: Please verify with your student’s teacher/EA that your student has sufficient instructional funds available for this purchase. We are not able to provide alternative payment options if there are insufficient funds and we are not able to refund any accompanying out-of-pocket ticket purchases. Please read the field trip description carefully. If an accompanying adult ticket is required, be sure to claim an adult ticket. If student/sibling tickets are claimed without accompanying adult tickets, we are not able to provide refunds for canceled student/sibling tickets.

Please note that during school field trips and other school-sponsored community events, photos and videos may be taken where students could appear in group settings. While we make every effort to respect media preferences, students may sometimes be captured in the background or within group shots in public spaces. If your child does not have media consent on file, they will not be the main focus of any photo or video. We do not highlight or identify individuals without prior consent.
