This event is for PLA students and their families. All students must be accompanied by an adult. Recommended for PLA grades TK-8th.

Step Back in Time at Calico Ghost Town!

Get ready for a day of adventure, history, and hands-on fun at Calico Ghost Town, a real 1880s silver mining town nestled in the Mojave Desert! Wander the historic streets, explore original buildings, and discover what life was like during California’s mining boom.

Your field trip admission includes four exciting attractions:

🚂 Calico & Odessa Railroad – Ride the historic train while learning about Calico and the California Gold Rush.
⛏️ Maggie Mine – Journey 1,000 feet into a real 1881 silver mine and discover how miners worked deep beneath the mountains.
✨ Gold Panning Adventure – Learn the art of gold panning, uncover your own treasure, and take home a souvenir vial of “gold!”
🤯 Mystery Shack – Experience gravity-defying illusions and puzzling sights that will leave you wondering, “How is that possible?”

After exploring the attractions, enjoy a self guided tour of even more of Calico’s charm as you visit fascinating museums, the historic one-room schoolhouse, unique shops, and original 1800s buildings. Families are welcome to bring snacks or purchase lunch from one of the town’s restaurants or saloon.

Tickets can be purchased out of pocket or with Instructional Funds (for Sage Oak students). Purchasing with Instructional Funds: Please verify with your student’s teacher/EA that your student has sufficient instructional funds available for this purchase. We are not able to provide alternative payment options if there are insufficient funds and we are not able to refund any accompanying out-of-pocket ticket purchases. Please read the field trip description carefully. If an accompanying adult ticket is required, be sure to claim an adult ticket. If student/sibling tickets are claimed without accompanying adult tickets, we are not able to provide refunds for canceled student/sibling tickets.

Please note that during school field trips and other school-sponsored community events, photos and videos may be taken where students could appear in group settings. While we make every effort to respect media preferences, students may sometimes be captured in the background or within group shots in public spaces. If your child does not have media consent on file, they will not be the main focus of any photo or video. We do not highlight or identify individuals without prior consent.
