Friendly reminder that there will be no school on Monday, May 25, in observance of Memorial Day. Classes will resume on Tuesday, May 26, as regularly scheduled.

Every week, we will highlight a Sage Oak High School student who has been nominated by their Education Advisor. This week, Sage Oak High School is celebrating…
 🌟John Himes (12th Grade)🌟
Jack is an inquisitive learner who consistently gives his best effort, especially during collaborative projects. He is a generous teammate who eagerly shares thoughtful ideas and actively engages with those around him. Jack also demonstrates remarkable integrity, remaining honest and authentic in all of his work.
The photos featured are from Jack’s photography class, where he creatively combined his love of Legos with elements of photography to produce imaginative and unique compositions.
After graduation, Jack plans to begin his post-secondary journey at Cyp ress College, where he will complete his General Education requirements before potentially transferring to a university. Throughout high school, Jack has challenged himself by taking four years of both science and math courses to prepare for college life and maximize his educational experience.
Sage Oak has been an excellent fit for Jack because the independent study model allows him to explore a variety of classes and opportunities that may not have been available in a traditional school setting.

College Essay Support Workshops for Rising Seniors
As junior year comes to a close, Sage Oak is excited to partner with College Essay Guy this summer to help students get a head start on college applications and essays before senior year begins. All Sage Oak juniors have been invited—at no cost to families—to four virtual workshops covering personal statements, UC Personal Insight Questions, supplemental essays, and college applications.
The workshops, led by college admissions expert Ethan Sawyer and his team, include live instruction, opportunities for essay feedback, and access to recordings and resources through the end of the year. Students will receive additional information and Zoom links directly from College Essay Guy in the coming weeks. These sessions will also be recorded so if you cannot make it, you will have access to the recordings for a full year 🤩!

FREE Parent Workshop – Support For the College Essay & Application Process
Families of college-bound students are invited to attend a FREE live virtual parent workshop hosted by College Essay Guy, Ethan Sawyer. There are two available sessions available May 19th and June 18th. The session will cover how parents can best support students through the college application and essay process, including tips from admissions experts and a live Q&A.

NEW College Visits
The application for Claremont McKenna College’s Fall Preview fly-in program is now open! Fall Preview will take place Sunday, October 5th, through Tuesday, October 7th. All associated costs (including transportation to campus, housing, and meals during the program) will be covered by CMC.

The Williams College fly-in program (WOW) provides about 150 high-achieving seniors a fully funded opportunity to visit campus and experience the Williams community. Participants stay in dorms with current students, attend classes, meet with professors, and learn about our admission process and extraordinary All-Grant financial aid program. There are two ways to apply:
- Students may complete the full WOW application form, including a high school transcript (screenshots or pictures of the transcript are accepted) and an essay submitted for an English or social science class during the 2025-2026 academic school year.
- Students who applied to the QuestBridge College Prep Scholars (CPS) program can reuse that application for WOW.
Please encourage your students to apply using this link by August 1, and feel free to contact us with any questions.
CC Partnership with Irvine Valley College
We are excited to offer two Irvine Valley College partner classes in Fall 2026! Students can earn both college and high school credit through asynchronous online courses with reserved seats just for our high school students. Currently, the available courses for the 26/27 school year include:
- U.S. History since 1865 (meets the U.S. History graduation requirement)
- Introduction to Psychology (elective credit)

Class of 2026 Graduation Checklist!
Congratulations, seniors! Graduation is a huge milestone, and there are a few important tasks to complete as you transition into college, career training, the military, or the workforce. Use this checklist to stay organized and prepared for your next chapter.

🏆Graduate Cords, Awards & Certifications
Graduation cords, awards, and certificates will be distributed to graduates during the ceremony check-in on June 2nd. For students who are not attending the ceremony, these items will be mailed along with their diploma. Families can view a description of the cords, awards, and certificates here, and a complete list of graduates and award recipients here.

All graduates must submit the Post High School Survey that includes your resume, post-high school plans and FAFSA confirmation/opt-out as well as a chance to shout-out your favorite EA and what helped you most at Sage Oak. Due by May 29th!

🎓 Final Grad Webinar
The final Grad Webinar will be held on Thursday, May 28th from 12-12:30 and is for students only! During this time, we will do walk-through of what to expect on the day of the ceremony, review your final to-dos and answer any last questions before the ceremony.

We are excited to celebrate our seniors and their plans after graduation at Decision Day on Tuesday, May 26 at 6:00 PM! Students who complete the Decision Day survey will be highlighted during the event as we recognize their next steps and accomplishments.

⛸️ L.E.A.P. Figure Skating Thursday, May 21
Come Learn, Experience, and Progress in figure skating! Experience what it is like to be a figure skater, even if it’s only for a couple hours. Figure skating lessons will be provided, skates will be available for $8 rental, off-ice training experience along with trivia fun! Thursday, May 21st 11:45 – 2:30pm at Great Ice in Irvine. Spots are limited.

Get ready to battle it out in our upcoming Fortnite Solo Zone Wars Tournament! Competitors will face off in an intense best-of-two format, where the first player to win two complete 14-round matches claims victory. All participants must arrive no later than 10:10 AM! Bring your best builds, aim, and strategy to see who comes out on top!

🎓 UC Riverside College Tour Friday, May 22
Join us for an official guided tour of the University of California, Riverside on Friday, May 22nd! The tour begins promptly at 1:00 PM, so please plan to arrive at least 20 minutes early. Feel free to explore campus and grab lunch before or after the tour—this is a great opportunity to experience UCR firsthand!

Kick off summer and celebrate the end of the school year with your friends at the beach. Our last high school hangout of the year will be Friday, May 22 from 12pm to 3pm at Belmont Shores in Long Beach.

 💃 NHS Prom Attire Collection & Exchange Wednesday, May 27
Do you have multiple fancy dresses you used for a single night, never to touch them again? Make them useful by donating them to those in need! On May 27th at Red Hill Park in Rancho Cucamonga, the National Honor Society will be hosting a dress collection. Stop by between 11am-2pm with your attire, and even check out some of the pieces other students donated.
If you aren’t graduating, feel free to exchange dresses with other students for next year’s Sage Oak events. Any remaining dresses will be donated to financially burdened teenagers. Suits are also accepted!

Accessing 2026 CAASPP/CAST/ELPAC Scores
2026 CAASPP/CAST/ELPAC (if applicable) scores are beginning to become available! Families can access student scores through the Parent Portal as reports are released by the state in batches throughout the summer. If your student’s scores are not yet available, please check back periodically. As always, your student’s teacher is the best resource for any questions you may have regarding score reports or student performance. To learn more about your child’s scores and view the Student Score Report (SSR), click here: CAASPP – Starting Smarter or ELPAC- Starting Smarter. If you need help with accessing the parent portal, please contact support@sageoak.education. To access student scores, ENTER the portal:
- Go to your home screen:
- Select the “Reports” tab
- Select the “Test Results” tab
- Click the 2026 CAASPP/ CAST/ELPAC Score Report PDF link
New this year, California has updated the way CAASPP English Language Arts, Math, and Science results are reported. The achievement level labels have been simplified to better reflect student growth and progress. The new performance levels are:
- Minimal
- Developing
- Proficient
- Advanced
These updated labels replace the previous terms such as “Standard Not Met” and “Standard Exceeded,” making it easier for families to understand student performance at a glance. For additional information, please refer to the attached flyer.
