This event is for K-8th grade PLA students and their families. Students must be in K-8th to participate in the Big Lab. All students must be accompanied by an adult.
Welcome to the Big Lab at the California Science Center! This is no ordinary laboratory...with 32,000 square feet of WIDE-OPEN space, ENGAGING classrooms, and GIANT customized activities, students will conduct ENORMOUS investigations, make HUGE discoveries, and have MASSIVE amounts of FUN through inquiry and exploration with these hands-on, minds-on learning experiences! Young scientists will roll up their sleeves and engage in a custom learning experience as they work side by side with an incredible team of talented educators.
Ooey Gooey Slime Lab (K-3rd grade) - Roll up your sleeves, this might get messy! Students will use their observation skills while learning best science practices in the laboratory as they measure, pour, mix, and create their own glow-in-the-dark slime!
Egg Drop Engineering Lab (4th-8th grade) - Look out below! Working in teams, students will use the engineering design process to build and test a prototype that can protect an egg from a two-story drop from the Mega-Tower. Crack open new discoveries using creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking in this EGG-cellent adventure!
After these exciting one hour labs, students and families can dive into fun and engaging exhibits at the California Science Center with self guided exploration! Through hands-on experiences in our galleries, you'll learn about human inventions and innovations, the life processes of living things and more. Get in the game and jump into the action at the new original exhibition GAME ON! Science, Sports & Play – a cutting-edge, 17,000 sq. ft. exhibition celebrating the transformative power of play and the joy of the human body in motion. Whether you're trying a fun new activity or fine-tuning your skills, explore the science behind an exciting lineup of sports and learn how it can level up your game. Guests of all ages and abilities are invited to swing, leap, kick and climb your way through an array of interactive challenges.
(Due to space limitations, parents and non-participating siblings will not attend the one hour Big Lab experiences. Families will have access to the museum for self guided exploration during that time.)

Tickets can be purchased out of pocket or with Instructional Funds (for Sage Oak students). Purchasing with Instructional Funds: Please verify with your student’s teacher/EA that your student has sufficient instructional funds available for this purchase. We are not able to provide alternative payment options if there are insufficient funds and we are not able to refund any accompanying out-of-pocket ticket purchases. Please read the field trip description carefully. If an accompanying adult ticket is required, be sure to claim an adult ticket. If student/sibling tickets are claimed without accompanying adult tickets, we are not able to provide refunds for canceled student/sibling tickets.
ALL WAITLISTS WILL BECOME AVAILABLE AT 8 AM ON SEPTEMBER 3RD.
Please note that during school field trips and other school-sponsored community events, photos and videos may be taken where students could appear in group settings. While we make every effort to respect media preferences, students may sometimes be captured in the background or within group shots in public spaces. If your child does not have media consent on file, they will not be the main focus of any photo or video. We do not highlight or identify individuals without prior consent.
