This event is for 9th-12th grade PLA students and their families. Children younger than 9th grade are not permitted to attend. All students must be accompanied by an adult.
Students will visit the Los Angeles Police Academy’s Recruit Training Center for an inside look at the journey to becoming an LAPD officer. During this visit, academy staff will explain the full application and selection process, including required qualifications, testing, interviews, and background steps. Students will also learn what LAPD recruits must complete in order to graduate—such as the timeline of the academy, daily expectations, physical fitness standards, defensive tactics, and the academic exams they must pass.
When available, students may also observe some of the more dynamic aspects of recruit training, such as physical training drills, formation practice, or scenario-based exercises. This field trip offers a unique opportunity to explore law enforcement careers and understand the discipline, commitment, and skill required to serve the City of Los Angeles.

Tickets can be purchased out of pocket or with Instructional Funds (for Sage Oak students). Purchasing with Instructional Funds: Please verify with your student’s teacher/EA that your student has sufficient instructional funds available for this purchase. We are not able to provide alternative payment options if there are insufficient funds and we are not able to refund any accompanying out-of-pocket ticket purchases. Please read the field trip description carefully. If an accompanying adult ticket is required, be sure to claim an adult ticket. If student/sibling tickets are claimed without accompanying adult tickets, we are not able to provide refunds for canceled student/sibling tickets.
Please note that during school field trips and other school-sponsored community events, photos and videos may be taken where students could appear in group settings. While we make every effort to respect media preferences, students may sometimes be captured in the background or within group shots in public spaces. If your child does not have media consent on file, they will not be the main focus of any photo or video. We do not highlight or identify individuals without prior consent.
