In-Person “Art in the Park”: Rancho Santa Susana (Simi Valley): Rock, Stick, & Stone: Nature’s Art Studio! (Quarter 3)

In this park meeting, we’ll dive into the world of earthworks—art made right in nature using rocks, leaves, sticks, and all sorts of cool materials! Inspired by artists like Andy Goldsworthy, who creates beautiful, temporary sculptures that change with the seasons, we’ll explore how these works of art interact with the environment around them. You’ll learn about the idea of ephemeral art, which means the art doesn’t last forever—it’s meant to be part of nature, shifting, decaying, or washing away over time. We’ll take a fun look at how artists like Goldsworthy, Robert Smithson, and Richard Long use the earth itself to create art, and how these pieces remind us that art and nature are connected. Get ready to think about art in a whole new way, where nature is the canvas, and everything is always changing!
