Focus & Frame: Photography Lab – Part 1

Designed for 6th–8th graders, this semester long course lays the foundation for creating intentional, artistic images with a DSLR camera. Students will learn how to move beyond casual snapshots by mastering framing, composition, and the creative process behind a strong photograph. Key concepts include the exposure triangle—aperture, shutter speed, and ISO—as well as how to manually choose your focus to control what your viewer sees. Weekly critiques and hands-on shooting assignments will help you develop a trained eye and build the confidence to begin telling stories through photography.

*Please note this course takes place twice a week for a full semester. Cameras and equipment will be sent to students and will include a $20 shipping fee and $25 equipment rental fee to be applied to IFs. Students must return equipment by December 15th to the warehouse with all equipment included. The Oakschool team will reach out the week prior to facilitate the return.
