Digital Citizens: Safe, Smart, and Skilled Online

This hands-on middle school course teaches students how to navigate the online world responsibly, respectfully, and confidently. Over the term, learners explore privacy, responsible social media use, digital footprints, and how to spot misinformation and scams. Interactive activities and discussion-based scenarios help students practice respectful online communication, cyberbullying prevention, and strategies for protecting personal data. They’ll learn practical skills like creating strong passwords, evaluating sources, and managing screen time for healthy digital habits. The class emphasizes ethical choices and digital empathy so students can be positive contributors to online communities.

The course includes enrollment in a Typing.com virtual course, which offers a coding certification at no additional cost to IFs. Students will have 8 weeks to independently complete the certification course.
