Ready to bring your sketches to life? In this semester-long animation class, students will journey from traditional techniques to full digital animation, exploring the art of movement, storytelling, and visual expression. We’ll begin with the basics—hand-drawn flip books and frame-by-frame sketching—to understand the foundations of timing and motion. As skills develop, students will transition to digital platforms like Adobe Fresco, Photoshop, and Adobe Animate, where they’ll create animated GIFs, looped sequences, and short animated scenes.Students will design their own characters, backgrounds, and visual worlds while learning how to animate simple actions, dialogue scenes, and expressive gestures. We’ll explore both 2D and motion graphics techniques and introduce special effects animation, including lighting, particles, and stylized movement to elevate digital projects.Throughout the course, students will gain hands-on experience in editing, timing, and digital storytelling, while developing a working knowledge of Adobe Animate timeline and effects tools. Weekly feedback and peer critiques will help refine their work and deepen their understanding of what makes animation engaging and effective. By the end of the semester, students will have a portfolio of traditional and digital animation pieces—including flipbooks, character sheets, animated GIFs, and short scenes—ready to share, submit, or expand upon in future creative projects.
