Originally built as a private boarding school in 1929, Toyon Bay boasts an ideal combination of attributes for the educational camp experience. The campus incorporates comfortable dormitory accommodations; fantastic indoor and outdoor dining facilities; modern, state-of-the-art laboratories, aquariums, classrooms and display areas with the untouched natural beauty of Catalina Island's land and sea environments.

Our 3-day field trips offer many activities; marine labs, shark. ray, and invertebrate touch tanks, plus algae, plankton, fish, and terrestrial labs among others.

Our evening programs include night snorkeling, astronomy hike, and squid dissection, to name just a few.

By focusing on hands-on experiential science, and utilizing our state of the art labs and equipment, we strive to increase science literacy.  Our expert instructors use the natural land and sea environments of beautiful Catalina Island to stimulate minds, and most importantly, to create excitement about science.

This is intended for students in a science course in the 2019.20 school year who are taking an in-person lab course and although we now allow online labs, it is still best practice to follow the NGSS for collaboration, data gathering and presenting your scientific findings.  If your student is not in a science class this year and would still like to go, I can place them on a waiting list and if we don't fill up by the closing date, then they can take those spots.
Minimum age is 13 years old for the science program. This is set by the Marine Institute and exceptions cannot be made. If you have a 7th grader who is 13 years old, they may attend. It is an age requirement, not a grade requirement.
Dietary restrictions? They have gluten free, dairy free, and vegetarian options. Students may also bring their own food for serious allergies.
