Career Technical Education

What is a Career Technical Education Pathway?

A Career Technical Education (CTE) pathway is a sequence of two or more CTE courses within a student’s area of career interest.  Pathways are designed to connect high school classes to college, industry certifications, and/or a career.

Arts, Media, & Entertainment Pathway

The Arts, Media, & Entertainment pathway teaches the skills and knowledge for creating, refining, and sharing work in the Arts, Media, and Entertainment industry sector. Additionally, it promotes teamwork, communication, creative thinking, and decision-making abilities which are important skills for being successful in the competitive and media-rich twenty-first century.

Child Development & Family Services Pathway

The Child Development Pathway will train students for employment in infant/child care centers, preschools, and school-age childcare programs. Students learn the developmental stages of children from conception through early adolescence, including the major theories of development and their application.

Information Technology Pathway

The Informational Technology Pathway equips students with the necessary academic and technical competencies to excel in the realm of computer science. Through this program, students will acquire skills in problem-solving, innovative thinking, programming, networking, the Internet of Things, cybersecurity, as well as personal and network security.

Sports Medicine

The Sports Medicine Pathway teaches the skills and qualities needed to be successful in the field of Sports Medicine. Upon completion of this pathway students will demonstrate an understanding of common sports injury prevention, pathologies, mechanisms, etiology, recognition, signs, symptoms, treatments, and complications.

Why is it beneficial for a student to select a CTE pathway?

Students in a CTE pathway gain academic and technical skills, meeting College and Career Readiness standards upon graduation. Courses follow the CTE Model Curriculum and Academic Content Standards, with a sequence that builds from foundational knowledge to advanced Capstone coursework.

-More likely to stay in college

Improves success in work and life

-95 percent of CTE students who did not go to college worked for pay within two years of high school graduation.

Increases career readiness

-Experts project 47 million job openings in the decade ending in 2018. About one-third will require an associate’s degree or certificate and nearly all will require real-world skills that can be mastered through CTE.
