Summer Sage News: Week of August 9, 2021

Week of August 9, 2021

The new school year is shortly upon us and we can soon shout a collective HOORAY! It is an honor and privilege for us to serve your families and we are excited for the adventures ahead!

As we wind down the last few weeks of break, take a moment to think back on the summer's highs and lows. Is there anything that stood out or anything about these activities or workshops you'd like to share? We'd love to hear your stories at!

Summer is soon slipping into the sunset… Did you see what I did there? I wrote an alliteration! Alliteration is when you repeat a sound at the beginning of multiple words in the same sentence---I used the /s/ sound! You can also try this technique in a silly way to write your own Tongue Twister! Try it and test it out on your family and friends!

Math isn’t always about numbers, it’s about logic and critical thinking! Landing on the moon, building the world’s tallest towers, cracking codes---math is needed for everything in the world! Reaching your arms up in the air stretches your arms, but how do you stretch your brain? MATH! Here are some challenging, mind-bending puzzles for you to cross your eyes over!

After reading this article from ReadWorks, we were berry shocked! We don’t want to spoil the information for you, but let’s just say we were surprised to learn about what is considered a berry and why. Read on to find out for yourself!

    Social Studies
Did you know that on August 10, 1821, Missouri became our 24th state? It is also home to the tallest manmade monument in the United States, the Gateway Arch. It reaches 630 feet, twice the height of the Statue of Liberty! Pick a state that interests you and fill out one of these State Fact Sheets! What fun facts did you learn?

    Social-Emotional Wellness
In our 7 Habits group, we talked about being Reactive and Proactive. We learned that it is important to take some time to calm down before we approach a situation so we can respond with reason and understanding. One way to give ourselves this time is to create a Mindfulness Jar. While we breathe through our thoughts and wait for our agitation to settle, we can also wait and watch the glitter settle.
