Sage News: September 6, 2022

Week of September 6, 2022

Suicide Prevention Awareness Month
September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month. The CDC reports that suicide is the third leading cause of death in young people ages 15 to 24. Suicidal thoughts can affect anyone, and while common, they should not be considered normal.

The Suicide Prevention Awareness campaign encourages people to use their voices to bring awareness to mental health by sharing information to prevent suicidal behavior and death by suicide. Please click below for resources:

Patriot Day
Sage Oak recognizes Sunday, September 11th as Patriot Day. Patriot Day is observed as the National Day of Service and Remembrance and occurs on September 11th of each year in memory of the 2001 September 11th attacks.

Counseling Corner
Get to know your Sage Oak counselors! Ms. Allie & Ms. Coral are here to serve and support your students’ social-emotional, academic planning and goal setting, and career/college needs. We look forward to collaborating with students, teachers, parents/caregivers, and administrators for student success.

We provide student lessons, small groups, and one-on-one short-term counseling opportunities. Do you or your student need additional support? Your Sage Oak counselors are here to help! Please bookmark and utilize our counselor request form.

Additionally, we’d love for your student to join one of our counseling classes or small group sessions.
  • Executive Functioning Class: Let’s talk about planning, staying organized, and how we can help students manage their time, set goals, and reflect on their learning.
  • Social Emotional Learning Class: How do we become our best selves? Students will gain self-awareness and the ability to clearly communicate their feelings, wants, and needs.
  • Social Skills Small Group: Learn how to build friendships, get along with others, listen attentively, work collaboratively, and recognize non-verbal cues.
  • Stress/Anxiety Small Group: We will help students process their worries, find healthy coping skills, and give them a sense of accomplishment about getting through them.
We will share student quick tips, live and recorded parent workshops (including high school specific!), and self-paced lesson content for each learning period. Are we missing something? Please complete the form below, so we can find out how we best support you. We are excited to serve and support Sage Oak students and families!
