Legislative Update: August 17, 2020

August 17, 2020

Dear Sage Oak families,

Last night we received an update that the budget subcommittee hearings have now likely been delayed until as late as next Monday, August 24th. The hearings were originally scheduled for today.

Please consider taking a moment to contact the Assembly and Senate budget committee members and voice your opposition to the suggested amendments to SB-98. These amendments from the Department of Finance (DOF) specifically exclude funding for the growth of non-classroom based charter schools like Sage Oak in the 2020-21 school year.

  • To view the contact information for the budget committee members, click here. It is important that you send your e-mail or letter to each committee member individually.
  • To view a sample letter, click here. You may copy and paste this template and adapt it to reflect your voice and your student(s)’ specific circumstances.

We have limited time to make contact before the next hearing. Please send your letters or emails as soon as possible. This could make a difference in the legislation's next vote.

As always, we will continue to keep you informed as more information becomes available. The summer session for the legislature ends on August 31st. We hope our legislators will find a solution before the conclusion of this session.

Thank you for your time and commitment to your students.

Sincerely,

Krista Woodgrift
Executive Director
