Dear Sage Oak Community,
As promised, we want to keep you informed with the most current information regarding the budget trailer bill SB-98. Last night, we received a disappointing update from the California Charter Schools Association (CCSA). The Department of Finance (DOF) has notified CCSA that while they will be offering amendments to the budget trailer bill SB-98 to address the growth cap on public schools, non-classroom based charters have been excluded. What this means is that the amendments that will be proposed to the Legislators state that non-classroom based charter schools will not be eligible for any growth funding, and no funding adjustments will be made during the year.
The Legislature will likely consider the proposal in a budget hearing set for next Monday, August 17th, but the details of the process and timing are not yet clear. We will continue to keep you informed as more information becomes available. The Sage Oak leadership team will be collaborating with stakeholders to modify the budget to have a minimal impact on our students and staff. After a final vote is made we will communicate any budget updates with you. At this time there are no plans to reduce instructional funds.
In the meantime, you still have the opportunity to advocate for students enrolling in non-classroom based charter schools by calling your legislator. To find your local legislators and voice your opinion about funding non-classroom based charter schools, click here.

Sincerely,
