Learn a little more about James in this short Q&A.
When did you discover your passion for performing arts?
I have always been immersed in performing arts and was fortunate to attend LACHSA, which is widely considered one of the most prestigious programs of its kind in California. From there, I went on to study at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy of the Arts in Hollywood, CA. I also completed certificate training at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. That led me to performing in musicals and feature films throughout Southern California.
What led you to this path?
During my many experiences performing, I realized that I wouldn’t have been able to grow into the artist and person I am today if not for my very first theatre classes in high school. Even after college, it was still LACHSA that was the most important time in my artistic development.
While working with Children’s Theatre Experience and the Metropolitan Educational Theatre Network, I made the decision that I was going to start pursuing a career in performing arts education. I was always doing shows with their students, not just as an actor, but also as a volunteer and mentor. These were truly transformative experiences that led me to the Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation, where I helped build art programs for several LA parks, and eventually to Sage Oak.
What are you looking forward to most while acting as the arts coordinator for Sage Oak?
I look forward to being a part of each student’s artistic journey. As the arts coordinator I am passionate about making sure Sage Oak has the absolute best arts vendors around. I look forward to offering students the most exciting arts field trips and events out there. I am also looking forward to sharing the wealth of knowledge I have received from my years of rigorous training and discipline. I am incredibly passionate about Sage Oak’s vision for their students as well. Before I was brought on as the arts coordinator Sage Oak had a clear vision of what would benefit each of their students artistically and wanted me to help execute that vision.
