Welcome to the Sage Oak Charter Schools – High School Chapter of the National Honor Society

NHS Eligibility Criteria

  1. Students must be members of the sophomore, junior, or senior class.
  2. Students must have been enrolled in at least one semester at Sage Oak.
  3. Students must have a cumulative 3.00 GPA or above. 
  4. Upon meeting the grade level, enrollment, and GPA standards, candidates shall then be considered based on their scholarship, service, leadership, and character. 
  5. Candidates will need to complete a minimum of 10 service hours each semester 

NHS Candidate Annual Selection Process

  1. Students will complete the Candidate Information Form and submit their Candidate Activity. Log in the Second Semester. (Deadline:  Friday, May 24th) 
  2. Students will send their EA, the Teacher Recommendation Form to be completed in the Second Semester. (Deadline: Friday, May 24th)
  3. The Sage Oak NHS Faculty committee will review candidate submissions and select students (May 28th-June 7th)
  4. Students will be notified of selection by the end of June and invited to an Induction Ceremony in the fall.

What is the National Honor Society?

The National Honor Society (NHS) is the leader among organizations and societies, established by the National Association of Secondary School Principals in 1921. NHS seeks to recognize students who reflect outstanding accomplishments in the areas of Scholarship, Character, Leadership, and Service, ideals essential to citizenship and the foundation of this prestigious organization.

What are the Benefits of the National Honor Society?

Colleges recognize NHS membership and when put on a college resume NHS can increase your chances of admission.

What is Membership?

Membership is both an honor and a responsibility bestowed upon a student. Members demonstrate a willingness to use talents and skills for the improvement of society, making a positive difference in the lives of individuals. NHS members are active participants in community service opportunities organized by the Executive Officers of the Sage Oak Charter Schools- High School Chapter. Membership in NHS can be used on your resume, as it is an important indication to prospective employers/colleges regarding your academic accomplishments, as well your character and commitment to responsibility.

Members must be willing and able to enthusiastically support the Chapter’s bylaws by:

  1. Attending the Induction Ceremony and published meetings.
  2. Participating in an annual NHS-Sponsored Community Service Project each year
  3. Participating in an individual service project which reflects his or her particular talents and interests as approved by the chapter adviser.
  4. Completing a minimum of 10 service hours each semester.

NJHS Eligibility Criteria

  1. Students must be members of the 7th, 8th, or 9th grade class.
  2. Students must have been enrolled in at least one semester at Sage Oak.
  3. Students must have a cumulative 3.0 GPA or above. 
  4. Upon meeting the grade level, enrollment, and GPA standards, candidates shall then be considered based on their scholarship, service, leadership, and character. 
  5. Candidates will need to complete a minimum of 10 service hours each semester 

NJHS Candidate Selection Process

  1. Students will complete the candidate information form and submit their Candidate Activity Log in the Second Semester (Deadline: TBD, will be established by the current NJHS membership)
  2. Students will send their Teacher, the Teacher Recommendation Form to be completed.
  3. The Sage Oak NJHS Faculty committee will review and select students.
